Théodore Labarre

Théodore Labarre (* March 5, 1805 in Paris, † March 9, 1870 ) was a French harp virtuoso and composer.

Life

Labarre was a student at the Paris Conservatory in 1823 and received the Prix de Rome. He lived alternately in Paris and London and made widely known on concert tours. In 1851 he was imperial Kapellmeister the private chapel of Napoleon III. In 1867 he was appointed harp professor at the Paris Conservatory.

Apart from nine operas and ballets, he wrote mainly for harp ( fantasies, nocturnes, duos and trios ) and a Méthode complète pour la harpe and numerous romances.
