History

The St. Stephen and St. Veit consecrated monastery was founded in 1045 by Bishop Suidger of Bamberg; it was dissolved in 1802 in the wake of secularization. The monastery buildings were purchased in 1804 by the Saxony- Coburg Minister Theodor von Kretschmann. The church was canceled in 1809. The convent buildings were later rebuilt into a chateau.
