Geography

The community is located directly on the banks of the Main, about 40 kilometers west of Bamberg and 20 kilometers east of Schweinfurt.

History

For the first time there's been mentioned in the year 802. The no longer existing Benedictine monastery was founded in 1045 by Bishop Suidger of Bamberg. As part of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg (or the monastery Theres ) Theres belonged from 1500 to the Frankish Empire circle. It was after the secularisation of Bavaria in favor of the Treaty of Pressburg (1805 ) Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany left to the formation of the Grand Duchy, with which it finally fell to Bavaria in 1814.

Incorporations

The municipality was created in the wake of the municipal reorganization in Bavaria on May 1, 1978 with the merger of the municipalities Obertheres, Untertheres and book. Already on 1 January 1974 the municipality Horhausen had been incorporated to Obertheres.

Mayor

Mayor since 2011 Matthias Schneider ( CSU), the 50.48 % of the vote in the first ballot in two opposing candidates. His predecessor, Hans -Peter Rice ( Wählergemeinschaft book and Horhausen ). The Deputy Mayor is the deputy mayor Joachim Turk and the third mayor Manfred Rott.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Theres shows a divided shield with an oil-fired boiler on the right flank and a fox on the left. The fox goes on Abbot Gregory II Fuchs, who until 1755 served as abbot of the Benedictine monastery Theres 1715, back. The oil boiler is the symbol of St.. Vitus, who died a martyr's death in boiling oil to 304. The coat of arms was designed in 1959 by the Schweinfurt heraldist Fritz Kretschmar and confirmed by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior on March 17, 1960. Originally the coat of arms of the municipality Obertheres it is since 1978 also the coat of arms of the municipality Theres.

Music

Musikverein Untertheres

The association founded in 1949, is one of the most active and successful clubs in the community Theres. He regularly hosts concerts and other festive activities in the resort.

Musikverein Obertheres

The club was founded in 1965 and consisted initially of 15 active musicians. Currently he is one of 154 members, of which 25 are active musicians. Once a year the club will host the traditional Easter concert since 1972.

Glee club cheerfulness Obertheres

In 1884, young men from Obertheres founded a social club cheerfulness. They met in today's inn crediting sink for pipe smoking and exchange news. It was sung in company often. At this time arose the first choral societies. As is increasingly the song was the focus of the meeting, the club was renamed on December 14, 1889 in glee club cheerfulness. The Turnverein Obertheres organized once a year the Starkbierfest.
The Brewing Community Book held every two years in the summer a brewer hard.
The fruit and horticulture club book celebrates every year in September Oven proof.

Count Palatine Adalbert von Babenberg (* 854, † September 9 906) from the House of Popp Onen was beheaded at the castle Theres.
