History

All rights of the Bishopric of Bamberg with the abbey long home, the barons of Greiffenclau and the Counts of Rotenhan fell 1803-1806 to Bavaria. In the course of border adjustments, the place was in 1810 left the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and arrived 1814/16 final to Bayern. In the district Gereuth is the eponymous former princely episcopal castle- 1815 in the possession of the Barons Hirsch arrived on Gereuth in the course of secularization (up to 1859).

Incorporations

On April 1, 1971, the 1818 independent locations Gereuth, Upper Untermerzbach and desert mountain catfish were incorporated. On May 1, 1978 Gleusdorf, Memmelsdorf in Lower Franconia region and parts of the dissolved municipalities Lichtenstein and Recheldorf were added.

The local council of Untermerzbach has 13 members, including the full-time mayor.

Mayor

Mayor since May 1, 2008 Helmut Dietz (SPD ) from Memmelsdorf in Lower Franconia. He sat down in the election with 62.00 % of the vote against Edgar Maier ( CSU). Predecessor was Walter Eichhorn (CDU ), who no longer took for reasons of age. Eichhorn was on 30 April 2008 after 56 years of service in the public service as probably the most senior official in the Free State of Bavaria to retire.

Economy, agriculture and forestry

It was in 1998 according to official statistics in the field of agriculture and forestry eight, 405 in manufacturing and in trade and transport 33 persons work at the workplace.
