Geographical Location

Maroldsweisach is located in the Main- Rhön at the edge of the Natural Park Haßberge, at the foot of Zeilberges.

Neighboring municipalities are, from the north clockwise beginning: Schweickershausen, slipways ( Thuringia) Sesslach ( Upper Franconia ), Pfarrweisach, Burgpreppach, Hofheim in Franconia, Bundorf, Sulzdorf at the Lederhecke and Ermershausen.

History

The castle Old Stone, one of whose possession Maroldsweisach in the Middle Ages, in 1225 first mentioned and falls since 1703. Maroldsweisach was the seat of the eponymous manor of the Barons of Horneck, which was mediatised in 1806 in the Grand Duchy of Würzburg of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany. 1814 coincided with the Grand Duchy of Bavaria.

Maroldsweisach reached in 1978 some notoriety through the ordered incorporation of Ermershausen in the context of local government reform in Bavaria, which vehemently opposed. This culminated in the occupation of the city hall of Ermershausen and the erection of barricades by the citizens in order to prevent the relocation of the municipal administration for Maroldsweisach. The village was finally stormed by several hundreds of riot police and evacuated the town hall. The amalgamation was completed on 1 May 1978. Since 1 January 1994 Ermershausen is self again.

Religions

75 % of the population are Protestant, 25 % Roman Catholic.

Incorporations

On 1 July 1971, the formerly independent communities Allertshausen and Marbach were incorporated. Gückel brain was added on July 1, 1975. Old stone followed on 1 January 1976, Pfaff village on June 1, 1976. Also a part of the community Burgpreppach with then about 50 inhabitants was transferred on June 1, 1976. Ditterswind, Hafenpreppach and Wasmuth Hausen lost its independence on 1 January 1978 and were incorporated into the market Maroldsweisach. The series of incorporations was with the inclusion of Dürr Ried, Eckartshausen, Ermershausen completed ( with the incorporated on 1 July 1973 market Birkenfeld and the former rural community Dippach ) and Voccawind on 1 May 1978.

Spin-off

On 1 January 1994, the district Ermershausen from the market Maroldsweisach was outsourced. Birkenfeld and Dippach remained in the market.
