Geographical Location

Thunder village is situated in the region Main- Rhön.

The municipality is the Zabelstein, with 489 meters the highest peak of the northern Steigerwald.

History

As part of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg thunder village belonged to the Frankish Empire circle. It was secularized in 1803 in Bavaria's favor and fell in the Peace of Pressburg in 1805 to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, with which it finally fell back to Bavaria in 1814. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

The most famous son of the village was the sculptor Johann von Halbig, professor in Munich, among other things, the creator of the Lion of Lindau harbor. Even his older brother Andrew, who worked among others in Würzburg, Munich and Vienna, was a noted sculptor.

Incorporations

Mayor since 2010 Klaus Schenk ( Christian voters Community thunder village). Its predecessor was from 1990 to 2009 Gerhard Eck ( CSU), who moved on to the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior as Secretary of State.
