Therese Albertine Luise Robinson

Therese of Jacob behaves. Robinson ( born January 26, 1797 in Halle ( Saale), † April 13, 1870 in Hamburg) was a German writer, folk song researcher and Slawistin. Under the pseudonyms Talvj and Ernst Berthold she published literary and scientific works in English and German language. She is best known as an editor and translator of the folk songs of the Serbs in two volumes ( 1825-1826 ).

Life

Therese of Jacob was the daughter of the political scientist Ludwig Heinrich von Jakob. The family left Germany in 1806 and settled in Russia, where his father taught at Kharkov University and the University of Saint Petersburg. Returned in 1816, Jacobs returned to Halle. Made famous by the Serbian philologist Vuk Stefanović Karadžić with the folk poetry of the Serbs, Therese published by language and history studies a highly acclaimed collection of Serbian folk songs. The first time used Autorenpseudonym Talvj ( after the initials of her birth name) she kept later in predominantly. She married in 1828 the American scholar Edward Robinson and Palestine researchers and lived with him later in the United States. From 1837 to 1839 she lived in Germany. After the death of her husband she returned in 1864 with her two sons back all the way to Germany. She lived among other things, in Baden- Baden and stayed from 1869 in Hamburg, where their son Edward was American consul.
