Theta Serpentis

θ Serpentis ( Theta Serpentis ) is a double star in the constellation Serpens Cauda. Its derived from the Arabic proper name Alya means fat tail ( oriental breed of sheep ).

The double star can be resolved as early as binoculars and consists of the 4.6 likes bright main star Theta1 and the 5.0 likes bright theta2; both stars are main-sequence stars of spectral type A5. Another star (HD 175 726, HIP 92984 ) is 7 to find ' from theta2.

The angular distance between theta1 and theta2 is 22.3 ", which corresponds to about 900 AU and leads to an orbital period of at least 14,000 years.

The two components are similar in their physical properties, both have twice the solar diameter and about twice the mass of the Sun and the 13 - and 18 - times brighter than the sun. Their surface temperatures are 8200 Kelvin.
