Tiruvarur (Tamil: திருவாரூர் Tiruvarur [ tiɾɯʋa ː ɾu ː r], also: Thiruvarur or Tiruvalur, not to be confused with Tiruvallur ) is a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It lies in the east of Tamil Nadu in the delta of the Kaveri. The next largest cities are located on the Coromandel Coast 24 kilometers east of Nagapattinam and Thanjavur 56 km southwest. Chennai, the capital of the state is located approximately 260 kilometers north. Tiruvarur is the administrative seat of the district of the same name. At the 2001 census, 56,280 residents were registered.

The center Tiruvarurs forms of Hindu Tyagaraja Temple.
