Thomas Beach

Thomas Beach ( Milton Abbas at * 1738 in Dorchester, Dorsetshire, † December 17, 1806 in Dorchester ) was an English portrait painter.

Life

Beach was the age of 22 to London to study in the years 1760 to 1762 with Sir Joshua Reynolds. To 1771 he settled in Bath as a portrait painter, but soon had exhibitions in London. In 1775 he was a Fellow in the Society of Artists, and had established himself as a portraitist of " better society " a name. In the years 1785-1797 he exhibited his paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Works

He painted, among others, the actress Sarah Siddons and her brother John Philip Kemble in his most important staging as "Macbeth". His painting of the horse-dealer Richard Tattersall was in 1867 on the "South Kensington Exhibition" to be seen and his portrait of William Woodfall, the first parliamentary reporter, is now in the National Portrait Gallery ( London).
