Thomas Gabriel (composer)

Thomas Gabriel ( born August 25, 1957 in Essen) is a German church musician, composer and arranger.

Life

Gabriel studied in his hometown Catholic church music at the Folkwang -Hochschule. From 1983 to 1986 he served as cantor at the Church of Our Lady of Recklinghausen. Freelance it was 1987/1988 worked for the West German Radio and the Ruhr Festival Recklinghausen. From 1989 to 1991 he was District cantor at St. Martin Idstein, 1992-1997 Regional cantor in Saarbrücken. Since 1998, he acts as a cantor for the Regional Institute of Sacred Music in the Diocese of Mainz with a focus on New Sacred Song for the deaneries Offenbach, Rodgau and Blessed city on the Einhard Basilica of St. Peter in Marzellinus and Blessed city.

Gabriel are many concerts as an organist, harpsichordist and pianist of the particular as Thomas Gabriel Trio, whose artistic focus is in jazz arrangements of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Since 2013 Thomas Gabriel is a member of the Ecumenical Association " intact eV " to promote the new hymn, art, culture and education.

Gabriel lives apart from his wife and has founded a new family. Contrary to common practice of the Catholic Church led this - apparently due to good personal contacts with the Bishop of Mainz Cardinal Lehmann - not to his dismissal from the church service.
