Thomas Grynaeus

Thomas Grynaeus, Thomas Griner, (* 1512 in Veringendorf; † August 2, 1564 in Rötteln ) was a theologian, reformer and pastor.

Life

Thomas Grynaeus grew up as the son of a farmer in the Württemberg Veringendorf. Grynaeus ' uncle was a school friend of Philipp Melanchthon. He studied at Heidelberg and Basel Greek and Latin and followed Simon Sulzer at the University of Bern, where until 1546 he worked as a professor of ancient languages ​​in 1536. Because of his sympathy for the 95 theses of Martin Luther, he was released in 1547 and then worked as a teacher and from 1555 as prefect at Basel Pädagogium. After the introduction of the Reformation in Markgraeflerland 1556 he was pastor at the 1558 Röttler church and superintendent in Rötteln what he remained until his death in 1564.

Thomas Grynaeus, a nephew of Simon Grynaeus was married to Adelheid Steuber and had eleven children, including Johann Jakob Grynaeus, who later became a minister in Rötteln.
