Thomas Kakuska

Thomas Kakuska ( born August 25, 1940 in Vienna, † July 4, 2005 ) was an Austrian violist.

Kakuska studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Franz Samohyl. In 1960, he made ​​his concert exam. After that, he was a member of the Vienna soloists and the Vienna String Trio and first violinist of the European String Quartet. At age 27, in 1967, he was concertmaster of the Vienna Composers Orchestra in Vienna. In 1981 he was the successor of Hatto Beyerle until his death violist of the Alban Berg Quartet.

Kakuska taught since 1971 as a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, from 1993 as a visiting professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne.
