Thomas Maissen

Thomas Maissen ( born October 23, 1962 in Zurich ) is a Swiss historian.

Thomas Maissen graduated in 1981 with the Matura in Basel. 1981 to 1989, he studied history, Latin and philosophy at the University of Basel and in Rome and Geneva. He received his doctorate with Hans Rudolf Guggisberg in Basel with the work of the French past with Italian authors of the 15th and 16th century in 1993. From 1993 to 1995 he was a research assistant at the University of Potsdam. From 1996 to 2004 he was a member of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung for Historical Analysis. In 2002 his habilitation at the University of Zurich. From 2002 to 2004 Maissen held a SNF professorship at the University of Lucerne.

Since the winter semester 2004/ 05 he teaches as Professor of Modern History with a focus on Early Modern History at the University of Heidelberg. Maissen is a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences since 2007. In 2009 he was a visiting professor at the EHESS in Paris, 2010 " Visiting Fellow " at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. His research focuses on the history of historiography, the history of political thought, the history of mentalities, of history, the history of Switzerland, as well as education and school history. Since September 1, 2013 he has been the first non - German, the German Historical Institute in Paris.
