Thomas N. Morahan

Tom Morahan ( born June 9, 1906 as Thomas Hugo Morahan in London, UK, † September 10, 1969 in Kensington, London ) was a British art director and film producer.

Life

Thomas Hugo Morahan became interested in painting at the age of seven years. At age 16, he attended the Royal College of Arts, at 17 he went to the London Academy of Painting. Subsequently, he worked in an architectural office. Since 1932, as an assistant in the movie, Morahan soon specialized in painting and sculpture.

In 1936, he joined as a draftsman for Alexander Korda's production company and was involved in the filming of Rembrandt in this function in the same year, the year after he created his first -of-town as chief architect. Even before the outbreak of the Second World War Morahan had designed some excellent decorations to equipment -intensive production of Erich Pommer's production company Mayflower, with Charles Laughton as the main character (Vessel of Wrath, St. Martin 's Lane, Reef Pirates ). After the war, Tom Morahan has been involved in a number of high-class movies. Rather disappointing, however, was the late 40s working with Alfred Hitchcock ( The Paradine Case, slave of the heart), for which he had been ten years earlier provided the smuggler story Reef Pirates.

Morahan proved his qualities when he had the buildings to historic materials or pretentious costume and adventure films to design ( Treasure Island, The King's Admiral, Boccaccio's great love ). In some of his later works ( you were 13, you whistled and the guys knuckled, China story, Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines ) he worked with his older brother, the production designer Jim Morahan, together. Tom Morahan, who had received a Oscarnominiering for his work on Sons and Lovers, has occasionally tried as a producer.
