Thomas Nguyên Văn Tân

Thomas Nguyen Van Tan ( * December 27, 1940 in Bai Xan; † August 17, 2013 ) was Bishop of Vinh Long. Its name combines Western names tradition ( Thomas as a first name before the family name Nguyen ) with Vietnamese ( Van Tân as a personal name stands behind the family name ).

Life

Thomas Nguyen Van Tân studied from 1961 to 1970 philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Seminary of St. Pius X in Da Lạt. He received on 21 December 1969 in Vinh Long priestly ordination. After doctoral studies at the Roman Pontifical Gregorian University from 1971 to 1974, he was appointed Dr. theol. doctorate. From 1974 he taught at the seminary in Vinh Long, in 1988 he was appointed professor of moral theology at the seminary in Can Tho and 1992 was appointed professor of the diocesan seminary in Vinh Long.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 10 May 2000 on the Coadjutor Bishop of Vinh Long. He received his episcopal consecration of the Bishop of Vinh Long, Jacques Nguyen Van Mau, on August 15th of the next year; Were co-consecrators Pierre Nguyên Soan, Bishop of Quy Nhon, and Raphael Nguyen Van Diep, Coadjutor Bishop Emeritus of Vinh Long.

After the retirement Jacques Nguyên Van mouse he followed him on 3 July 2001 by the Bishop of Vinh Long.
