Thomas P.M. Barnett

Thomas PM Barnett (born 1962 in Chilton, Wisconsin) is an American researcher in the field of military strategy.

Career

Barnett grew up in Boscobel, Wisconsin (USA). A relative, Major General George Barnett, was commander of the U.S. Marine Corps during the First World War ( 1914-1918).

In 2000 he was commissioned by the company Cantor Fitzgerald, to conduct a research project on global military strategies.

Political significance

Even before the attack in September 2001 on the World Trade Center in New York Barnett had shown radical Islam in his hypotheses as possible main enemy of the U.S. superpower. This theoretical approach initially not convinced, but won by the events of September 11, 2001 surprisingly important. Already in March 2002 could geostrategic first results will be presented to the then U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
