Thomas Wilbrandt

Thomas Wilbrandt (* 1952 in Bielefeld ) is a German composer and conductor.

Life

He studied with Franco Ferrara, Hans Swarovsky and Bruno Maderna in Rome, Vienna and Salzburg and was three years assistant to Herbert von Karajan with the Berlin Philharmonic in Berlin and Salzburg.

In 1980 he founded the Berlin Chamber Academy, an orchestra of 40 musicians who originally were made up of the members of the Berlin Philharmonic. With this ensemble he recorded, among others, the highly acclaimed Mozart series for RCA / Victor.

In addition to his activities as an international conductor with major symphony orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, Wilbrandt has increasingly focused on their own projects and recordings of his own works that are stylistically primarily attributable to the avant-garde and electronic music.

His first major project was "THE ELECTRIC V. " from 1984, which is a recording of Vivalids four seasons as a mixture of acoustic orchestra with electronic instruments. This was also between 1987 and 1990 also titled "THE ELECTRIC V. " filmed.
