Thomas Wrede

Thomas Wrede (* 1963 in Letmathe (now the city of Iserlohn ) ) is a German photographer.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster from 1985 to 1991, and later ( 1998-2005) he taught at the academy itself also in 1997 he was awarded the Karl -Hofer Prize in Berlin and the 2002 Photography Prize Wiesbaden. Since many years he addresses in his photographic works, the questioning of one's own reality and the perception of claims, which fascinated him, the relationship of man to nature.

In his series "Real landsscapes " (since 2004) plays Thomas Wrede with perspective, he puts little miniature houses and toy cars in a small segment of nature and created from wide platforms. To the viewer, it is made difficult to distinguish between reality and fiction. Initially, remember his photos to the landscape observations of Caspar David Friedrich, but you will then recognize his way of working you will be more reminiscent of the paper worlds by Thomas Demand. Thomas Wrede leaves the viewer tracks, just clear enough to make an oversized thumb or footprint in the model can identify landscapes. Thomas Wrede studied the game with the viewer, between quintessence of familiarity and irritation by its breaks with the truth promise of photography.
