Thoracolumbar fascia

The thoracolumbar fascia is a fascia in the lumbar region, which surrounds the musculus erector spinae.

The fascia consists of two sheets: the deep layer (lamina profunda or anterior) is the iliac crest ( iliac crest ), to the ribs projections ( transverse processes; costal processes or transverse processes ) attached to the lumbar vertebrae and at the lowest rib, while the superficial layer (lamina superficial or posterior) to the spinous processes ( spinous processes ) of the vertebrae is fixed. By combining the two Bindegewebsblätter the lateral ( toward the side ) edge of the musculus erector spinae created a box for the paravertebral, that is located next to the vertebrae, muscles. The aponeurosis is also the starting point for several muscles; the deep leaf spring from the musculus transversus abdominis and the internal oblique muscle, while at the superficial sheet including the latissimus dorsi muscle, musculus serratus posterior inferior, and the gluteus maximus have an original surface.

Cranially ( towards the head ) continues the superficial layer of the thoracolumbar fascia through the fascia nuchae.
