Thoralf Strømstad

Vilhelm Thoralf Strømstad ( born January 13, 1897 in Bærum, † January 10, 1984 in Oslo) was a Norwegian skier, who competed in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined.

Career

Strømstad celebrated his first success at the national level. He won at the Norwegian Championships 1919 title in the Nordic combined. Three years later, at the Norwegian Championships in 1922, he secured the title in cross-country skiing over 30 km.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix Strømstad won two silver medals. About 50 kilometers he had to h only Thorleif Haug beaten with a time of 3:46:23. In Nordic Combined, he jumped the largest size in the first jump. Together with the third- best jump in the second round, he reached the second place in the jumping. With the third fastest time in the subsequent cross-country skiing over 18 kilometers, it finished in second place in the overall standings and so won the silver medal behind again Thorleif Haug.

Already in 1923 he was awarded for his achievements in skiing the Holmenkollen medal.
