Thorin (4 - (2- Arsenophenylazo ) -3-hydroxy -2 ,7- naphthalenedisulfonic acid disodium salt ) is a chemical compound which is used as an indicator and complexing agents.

Properties

Thorin is a red solid which is soluble in water.

Use

Thorin is used in water analysis as an indicator in the titrimetric determination of sulfate ions with Bariumperchloratlösung. Because of the properties as a complexing agent is also used for detection of specific metal ions. The detection of thorium ion was the cause for the naming. Thorium (IV ) ions can be determined quantitatively by photometry on the red colored complex. Also can be determined in this manner quantitatively uranium (IV ) salts.
