Thorvald Strömberg

Lennart Thorvald Strömberg ( born March 17, 1931 in Kirkkonummi; † 9 December 2010 Ekenäs ) was a Swedish finland canoeist and Olympic champion.

Strömberg grew up in Ekenäs and worked as a fisherman. In 1950, the then 19 -year-old first traveled abroad to participate in Denmark at the world championship in canoeing in Copenhagen. He won the gold medal in the one - kayaking in the 10,000 meters; a success he repeated eight years later at the World Championships in Prague.

In the Summer Olympics 1952 in Helsinki he could erpaddeln the gold medal in one kayak on 10,000 m and in addition the silver medal at 1000 m, only beaten by Sweden Gert Fredriksson.

Strömberg was for many years the chairman of the canoe club car in his hometown, where he worked as an entrepreneur in the field of diesel engines.
