Through a Glass, Darkly (Gaarder novel)

Through a Glass, Darkly ( " I et speil, i en gate" ) is a novel by the Norwegian author Jostein Gaarder and philosophers. The title refers to the Bible verse 1 Cor. 13.12 back. The first edition appeared in 1993, the German translation by Gabriele Haefs in 1996.

Content

The 15 -year-old Norwegian girl Cecilie Skotbu is bedridden with a serious illness. At the beginning of the Christmas season appears to her an angel named Ariel, with whom she enters into a pact: Ariel wants to reveal their secrets of the cosmos when she shows him how it is to live as a human and have feelings and him of this may be difficult to empathize explains human life. In numerous conversations in which Cecilie also learns more about her own transient life, try Ariel and Cecilie to understand each other, while Cecilie getting worse and threatens to die. For the last time in her life she is thinking about their own existence, until they finally entrains the angel Cecilie on her last voyage.

Filming

The novel was filmed in 2008 in Norway by Jesper W. Nielsen and arrived there on 17 October 2008 in the cinemas. The film stars Marie Cecilie and Aksel Hennie Haagenrud as Ariel. A German theatrical release of the Norwegian- Danish co-production of 4 1/2 film is not yet known.
