Thumer Netz

As Thumer network were referred to the area around the city Thum in the Ore Mountains in Saxony operated 1886-1975 750 mm -lane Saxon narrow gauge railways. The total length was about 44 km. Landmark and largest structure of the network was the 180,60 m long and 35,60 m high about Greifenbach viaduct between Ehrenfriedersdorf and Geyer.

In Wilischthal and Schönfeld- Wiesa was following the standard gauge track Annaberg -Buchholz - Floeha ( Zschopautalbahn ) and in my village to the likewise standard gauge Chemnitz- Aue- Adorf ( which still circulating between Chemnitz and Aue Zwoenitz Valley Railway ).

  • Wilischthal - Thum (* 1886-1972; distance remaining to paper mill Wilischthal until 1992 in operation) with spur track Herald Ehrenfriedersdorf ( 1886-1906 * )

The depot Thum

After the Second World War, the traffic increased on the narrow gauge railways in the Ore Mountains, and in particular the lines of Thumer network, Pöhlatalbahn and Fichtelbergbahn, in the course of uranium mining greatly. First were the Lokbahnhöfe Thum and Jöhstadt yet depot in Annaberg -Buchholz. Due to the strong increase in Lokbestands in their various places but the new depot Thum was founded on February 1, 1949. This addition to the locomotives and wagons for the Thumer network and the Preßnitztalbahn from 1 June 1959 were under the route Hetzdorf - Eppendorf. In the 1960s also came the locomotives of Fichtelbergbahn for Bw Thum. In the wake of the now -normalizing transport services and the initial operating settings on various narrow gauge railways the railway depot Thum was disbanded on 1 January 1967 and converted into a place of installation of Bahnbetriebswerk floodplain. The application site itself was closed on 1 January 1974 with adjustment of traffic on the network Thumer. The remaining locomotives in Thum, Upper Wiesenthal, Jöhstadt and Schönfeld- Wiesa ( the Lokbahnhof Eppendorf was temporarily closed by the closure of the route) were under from then on the point of use in Annaberg -Buchholz, a branch of the Bw floodplain.

Branch offices of the Bw Thum passed in Eppendorf, Jöhstadt Oberwiesenthal.

Mainly series machines 99.51-60, 99.73-76 and 99.77-79 were used. The 99.51-60 came mainly on the track Hetzdorf -Eppendorf and Wolkenstein Jöhstadt used, while the 99.73-76 and 99.77-79 drove only on the routes to Thum and on the track Cranzahl top Wiesenthal.
