Eppendorf is a German municipality in the district of Central Saxony Saxony. Nationally known Eppendorf is the largest village church in Saxony.

Geography

The municipality is located in the lower Eppendorf Ore Mountains, about 20 kilometers east of Chemnitz and 15 kilometers southwest of Freiberg. Eppendorf extends along the Great Loessnitz, a tributary of the Floeha.

In addition to the Eppendorf formerly independent communities of small Hartmann village include ( inclusion on October 1, 1995) and Großwaltersdorf ( inclusion on October 1, 1998) to the community.

Typical of the area are the long-drawn settlements that often follow streams, as well as the wide fields and pastures on the plateaus between the river valleys. The municipal area is dominated by agricultural land, only in the north- west there is a 100 hectares comprehensive forest. History

History

In the 13th century Eppendorf and Ebersbach emerged (now merged with Eppendorf ) by colonists on schedule as Waldhufen villages. Coat of arms

The Eppendorf coat of arms is composed of the three arms of the old part places Eppendorf ( Crane ), Small Hartmann village (hand ) and Großwaltersdorf ( Ross).

Blazon: "In a depressed and expiring at an obtuse angle drawbar section divided; above in blue with a silver crane, with his right foot holding a silver stone; forward and down in a green growing out of the front plate edge silver right hand, holding a small silver table; back in gold from the rear shield margin growing border black horse. "

The coat of arms is performed in the official seal of 11 June 2002 following a decision of the municipal council. The design of the coat of arms comes from Gerhard Bieber, Dipl.- Designer. This was preceded by an endorsement of the Saxon Central State Archive in May 2002.

The Old Town Seal Eppendorf shows a crane holding a stone in his raised claw. This symbol indicates that the stone falls with decreasing vigilance on the claws of the other foot. The crane is attested in the municipality seal since 1814.

Partnerships

Eppendorf has maintained for 12 September 1990 a partnership with the City of Lohmar in North Rhine-Westphalia. This was extended by the Lohmarer partner communities Frouard and Pompey in Lorraine; the two French communities near Nancy connects a bridge over the Moselle. On November 20, 1999, a partnership agreement between the district of retail Hartmann village and the Czech community Malkov was signed at the foot of the Erzgebirge.

Attractions

The church was consecrated in Eppendorf 1865. It was built by the architect Christian Friedrich Arnold and is the largest village church in Saxony.

Economy and infrastructure

In addition to smaller agricultural trade and craft businesses, tourism plays an increasing role in the economic fabric of the community ( two Hotels, Cottages and B & B ). At the southern end of the industrial park Eppendorf Reif countries road was reported.

Eppendorf is the site of a primary school and a secondary school.

Transport links

Eppendorf is located at the intersection of several state roads, making the nearest highways 101, 173, 174 and 180 can be reached in a maximum distance of 10 kilometers.

For the Federal Highway 4 is via the connecting points Oberlichtenau, Frankenberg, Hainichen or Siebenlehn.

Direct transport links by bus exist practically in all directions, for example to Zschopau, Augustus Castle, Floeha, Chemnitz, Oederan, fire -Erbisdorf and Freiberg.

Eppendorf owned from 1893 to 1967 a railway station on the narrow gauge railway Hetzdorf Eppendorf Großwaltersdorf. After its closure is the nearest railway station is eight kilometers away on the Flöhatalbahn ( station Grünhainichen - Borstendorf ).
