Tiberius (son of Maurice)

Tiberius (Greek Τιβέριος, * after 583 in Constantinople, Opel, † November 27 602 at Chalcedon ) was the second son of the Eastern Roman Emperor Maurikios and Constantina.

Tiberius was allegedly raised along with his older brother as co-emperor Theodosius 590. In the dating formula of a synod of the year 595 in Rome Tiberius is possibly named as Augustus. In the Testament of Maurikios of 597, which provided for a rule division between East and West Rome following the Tetrarchy, Tiberius was provided as emperor of the West with the residence Rome.

After the fall of Maurikios 602 his successor Tiberius Phocas made the kill with his father and his brothers Petros, Justin and Justinian; whether Theodosius managed to flee to the court of the Persian king Chosroes II, is uncertain.
