Tide gauge

The Mareograf ( Mareograph ) is a self-registering instrument for continuous measurement of sea level on an oceanographic station level.

He belongs to the write level and was developed in the 19th century to automate the periodic reading of the traditional tide gauges.

With many years of registration, the mean water can be specified with centimeter accuracy and serve as a reference height of land surveying. The level of this mean sea level approximates the geoid.
