Life and career

Tim Maia grew up in the Tijuca district to the north of Rio de Janeiro and wrote his first songs at the age of eight years; at fourteen he formed his first, short-lived band called Os Tijucanos do Ritmo, in which he played drums for a year. Carlos, who had already appeared regularly as a singer on TV, mediated contact with the producer Carlos Imperial; several television appearances followed. Due to personal differences between Maia and Carlos, the band was, however, dissolved soon.
