Tim Mertens

Tim Mertens ( born February 7, 1986 in Mechelen) is a former Belgian track cyclist.

Career

Tim Mertens was 2004 Belgian Junior Track Cycling Champion in 1000 m time trial, in the individual pursuit and points race. At the European Championships for Juniors he won the bronze medal in the points race at the World Championships and the silver medal in Madison. On the road, he won a stage at the Junior Tour of Keizer Juniores Koksijde and was second in the overall standings. 2005 Mertens became Belgian champion in the Omnium and a year later in the Team Pursuit. In the 2007 season he won three races of the UIV Cup and so was also the first in the overall standings. In the U23 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cottbus, he was third in the team pursuit.
