Time between overhaul

(Mean ) Time Between Overhaul ( MTBO or TBO) are synonymous terms of the English language for the average period until the overhaul of equipment, machinery or motors. MTBO serves as a measure of the durability of devices or systems.

The higher the MTBO value, the more durable the device should be. A device with a MTBO of 100 hours is therefore likely to be due for overhaul, than an otherwise similar device with a MTBO of 1,000 hours.

Example

The TBO is at an aircraft engine at the time, until the engine needs to be overhauled. For reciprocating engines, the TBO is 1000-2500 hours. During this time, several other checks to be carried out, such as the 100 - hour inspection or a 500 - hour inspection, which must be performed only by a licensed aircraft mechanic. If the TBO period has expired, should the engine to the manufacturer or to an authorized dealer to be overhauled.
