Times Higher Education

Times Higher Education (THE) is a London magazine release, which provides information on topics in the field of higher education. Previously appeared in newspaper format from October 1971 to January 2008 The Times Higher Education Supplement, also known as The Times Higher or THES known. THE is in possession of the publisher TSL Education, which was until 2005 part of News International - a company that produces, among other things, the daily newspaper The Times. Principal owner of TSL Education is currently (2012 ) the British private equity firm Charterhouse Capital Partners.

Times Higher Education Ranking

THE is known especially for The Times Higher World University Rankings, a project carried out annually university ranking. The university ranking was carried out between 2004 and 2009 with the partner Quacquarelli Symonds. After criticism of the methods of the rankings they were changed. Since 2010, the ranking is done in cooperation with Thomson Reuters.

Method

According to the company are (as of 2013-2014 ) considered 13 criteria for establishing the ranking. The underlying data were collected through interviews of academics and there are further from the general statistics of the universities and the count of citations of articles in professional journals. The criteria are weighted: The field of teaching with 30 %, the research and citation also with 30 %, internationality with 7.5 % and the economic impact of 2.5%. The results of the survey total flow to 15 % with respect to the teaching and to 18 % with respect to one of the research reputation of a university. In addition, among other things, statistical relationships such as staff per student or the proportion of candidates are taken into account to measure the quality of teaching.
