Timimus

Timimus is a little-known genus of dinosaur from the group of Coelurosauria. Sometimes it is provisionally attributed to the Ornithomimosauria. Only the type species T. hermani was scientifically described.

From this dinosaur only individual femur and fragmentary vertebrae have been found so far. They belong to the type specimen NMV P186303 from the type locality Dinosaur Cove from the late Aptian and early Albian, ie the late Cretaceous. The fossils are dated to the early Albian at an age of about 113-110 million years. The few findings do not allow precise conclusions about the look or the exact systematic position within the Ornithomimosauria, Timimus therefore considered nomen dubium.

Noteworthy in this dinosaur is the location on the Australian continent ( State of Victoria ). The Fund could be a sign that the Ornithomimosauria a larger area of distribution were as previously thought. So far, these dinosaurs were only of the continents of the Northern Hemisphere ( the geological super continent of Laurasia ) known.

The name means " Tims imitators " and stands in the tradition that Ornithomimosauria are often called " copycat " ( - mimus ) designated by birds. " Tim " alludes both to the son of the discoverer of the couple as well as the biologist Tim Flannery.
