Timothy Shay Arthur
Timothy Shay Arthur ( born June 6 1809 in Newburgh, New York, † March 6, 1885 in Philadelphia ) was an American writer.
Arthur grew up in Baltimore and lived in Philadelphia since 1841. He was married to Eliza Alden since 1936; they had five children.
Arthur was one of the most prolific writers of the period before the American Civil War. Many of his works, including Ten nights in a bar -room, and what I saw there, support the American temperance movement. From 1852 he was editor of Arthur 's Home Magazine.
