Timur Kulibayev

Timur Kulibayev Askarowitsch (Russian Тимур Аскарович Кулибаев, Kazakh Тимур Асқарұлы Құлыбаев; born September 10, 1966 in Almaty) is a Kazakhstani manager and son in law of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. He is Chairman of the four state-owned company Kazatomprom, KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan Temir and Samruk - Kazyna Scholy and board member of Gazprom.

Life

Timur Kulibayev Askarowitsch was born on 10 September 1966 as a son of Askar Altynbekowitsch Kulibayev and his wife Raissa Aldabergenowna Kulibajewa in Almaty. In 1988 he graduated from the Moscow State University.

His career in the industry began Kulibayev in the 1990s in the Kazakh Ministry of Finance. In 1997 he was Vice President of the Kazakh state oil company Kazakhoil and three years later in 2000 he became Chief Executive Officer of KazTransOil, a subsidiary of Kazakhoil, which is responsible for the pipelines of the company. The following year he became CEO of TransNefteGaz, which controlled all pipelines in Kazakhstan. After the company Kazakhoil dissolved and merged into the newly formed company KazMunayGas, Kulibayev was its vice-president for three years. From this position he resigned in October 2005 and two months later Chairman of Kazenergy.

In June 2006 he returned to KazMunayGas back as the new president and CEO. Also in 2006, Kulibayev became chairman of the newly established state holding Samruk, which he did in 2007 left again. Already in 2008, but he returned to Samruk Kazyna -, the successor company Samruk. Since 2011, Kulibayev is also a member of the Board of Gazprom and chairman of Samruk - Kazyna.

Charges of money laundering and corruption

In September 2010, the Swiss Prosecutor General's Office opened a case against Kulibayev for money laundering. His wife, Dinara Kulibajewa had purchased a villa for the fantasy price of 75 million Swiss francs in Switzerland on Lake Geneva; was thus, as suspected National Carlo Sommaruga, operated money laundering. The said sum of money of unknown origin, said to have been washed by Kulibayev, is 600 million dollars, to be kickbacks from the period of 2000 to 2005 at least partly, as he was CEO of KazTransOil.

Private life

Kulibayev is married to Dinara Kulibajewa, one of the three daughters of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The couple has three children, a son and two daughters. He is also president of the Kazakh boxing federation.

His fortune is, according to the Forbes Magazine about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars. It is the main shareholder of Kazakh Halyk Bank.

Timur Kulibayev caused a stir in Britain when he bought the estate of Sunninghill Park Prince Andrew for £ 15 million, three million pounds over the value of the property.
