Tino di Camaino

Tino di Camaino (* 1280 in Siena, † 1337 in Naples) was an Italian sculptor and architect of the late Gothic period.

Life

Tino di Camaino was a pupil of Giovanni Pisano, whom he assisted in the façade of the Duomo of Siena, possibly even in the pulpit of Sant'Andrea, Pistoia. 1311 he followed him to Pisa, where Giovanni Pisano got transferred the construction management for the cathedral. During this period he created the tombs of Emperor Henry VII ( 1315 ) and Bishop Orso ( 1323). From 1324 he worked primarily on behalf of the royal house of Anjou in Naples. In addition to the execution of the royal tombs in S. Maria Donna Regina, San Domenico Maggiore and S. Chiara, it also urban planning tasks were transferred there. These are the Charterhouse and the transformation of the grounds of the Castel Nuovo.
