Tirebolu

Tirebolu (formerly Tireboli, Greek: Τρίπολις ) is a port city on the Black Sea in the Turkish province of Giresun. In 2000 it had about 17,500 inhabitants.

History

Founded in 656 AD by Greek colonists from Miletus, it was conquered by the Ottomans in 1397 under Emiroglu Hajji Suleiman. During the First World War it was occupied from 1916 to 1918 by Russian troops.
