Titus Statilius Taurus

Titus Statilius Taurus ( * before 60 BC in Rome, † after 10 BC) was a Roman general and politician of the 1st century BC from the original Luke family of Statilii.

Statilius was born in Rome in 60 BC. He served Octavian, later Emperor Augustus, as a commander. In 37 BC he was Suffektkonsul. After the fall of the triumvir Lepidus Statilius served as governor of the province of Africa two years. At the battle of Actium, he commanded the land army, while Marcus Agrippa Vipsanius, a childhood friend of Octavian, commanded the fleet.

After the victory over Mark Antony and Cleopatra VII of Actium to Statilius participated in the conquest of northern Spain. 29 BC he fought against the Celtiberian tribes of the Cantabrians and Asturians. In the same year Statilius had built on the eastern part of the Campus Martius, the first stone amphitheater in Rome, which was destroyed in the Great Fire of Rome at the time of Nero.
