To the Sea

To the Sea is the ninth album by the American guitarist and songwriter Jack Johnson. It was released on May 28, 2010 and includes 13 songs. The first single You and Your Heart was released on April 22, 2010.

Music style

On the album, the acoustic guitar enters something in the background, the band Jack Johnson can be heard more than before.

Formation

On January 19, 2010 it was announced on the homepage of the artist that he works with his band on a new album. On 1 February 2010, known there as the release date of 1 June 2010. The album was recorded within three weeks in Johnson's own solar-powered studios The Mango Tree in Hawaii and the Solar Powered Plastic Plant in Los Angeles. It was taken there in a room where there Johnson was to use as little overdubbing and recording instruments the sound of a band playing and the " merge into one another ." To the Sea appeared on Johnson's Brushfire Records label its own. The first single You and Your Heart had previously been released on radio and iTunes.

The album title referred Johnson to a father who leads his son to the sea, the water representing the subconscious. It was a matter of looking and to understand themselves under the surface. The album handle both of them, as he stood to his three children, as to be also on his father's son.

Reception

The album received mostly good reviews. Eberhard wrote Dobler of Laut.de, you hear that Jack Johnson prefers the natural rhythm of the waves as the only surrenders to follow a monetary logic. This is also good and right way. However, it should also be heard no " bag full of surprises ." The plate was evaluated with three out of five stars. Allmusic gave the album in person by Stephen Thomas Erlewine four out of five stars. It would involve a "better" pop album, an album of a "soft- rock superstars ." Even if the " polite grooving" band the tempo don something, it would not be sweating.
