Tobermory distillery

Tobermory is a whiskey distillery in the town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull ( Argyll and Bute ), Scotland. The warehouses of the distillery are sorted in the Scottish lists of monuments in the B category.

History

The Tobermory Distillery was founded in 1798, but was closed in the 19th century over longer periods. From 1916 to 1930, she was owned by the Distillers Company Ltd.. (DCL ) and closed from 1930 to 1972 again. In 1972 the distillery was as Ledaig Distillery ( Tobermory ) Ltd.. reopened, now extended even to 4 stills, but had to close soon after a bankruptcy in 1975. In 1978 the distillery was sold to Kirkleavington Property and renamed back to Tobermory. From 1981 to 1989, the distillery was closed from 1990 again produced in small scale. In 1993, the distillery of Burn Stewart Distillers Ltd. was. adopted and has since worked continuously.

Production

The water belonging to the Highlands / Islands distillery dates back to the Mishnish hole. The malt used is from the Port Ellen malting. The distillery has a mash tun ( 4.5 t) of cast iron, four fermentation tanks ( together 92,000 l) of Douglas fir wood, two wash stills ( per 18,000 liters ) and two spirit stills ( 16.000 l).
