Tobias Pock

Tobias Pock (* 1609 in Konstanz, † June 12, 1683 in Vienna, but also Pockh Tobias, Tobias Bock ) was a German or Austrian painter.

Life

Tobias Pock came from a Swabian family of artists; his father was a builder at Konstanz Cathedral. He settled in Southern Germany trained as a painter and went on study trips to Italy. He was a great painter of the early Austrian Baroque period, active in Vienna and surrounding areas from 1639.

One of the most important works pocks is the high altar of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna (1640 /47). For the cathedral created Tobias Pock later the altarpiece of St. Peter and Paul Altar, which the stonemason guilds built in 1677 and has been preserved as the second- oldest baroque altar of the cathedral under the Orgelfuß.
