Tochinoumi Teruyoshi

Tochinoumi Teruyoshi (Japanese栃ノ海 晃嘉; born March 13, 1938 in Inakadate, Aomori Prefecture, Japan Hanada Shigehiro (花田 茂 广) ) is a former sumo wrestler and the 49th yokozuna successful.

Career in sumo

Tochinoumi belonged to the successful especially in the 1950s and 1960s Kasugano Beya -, which included the former yokozuna Tochinishiki and Tochigiyama.

After its debut in September 1955 Tochinoumi rose in about 3 1/2 years in juryo Division and reached a year later in March 1960, the Makuuchi division. He stabbed while out with its technical performance, which was reflected in six GINO Shō (special price for good technical services).

His first tournament victory he managed at the summer tournament in 1962 and was promoted to ozeki then. A year later he was sent to a 13-2 in September and a 14-1 in November ( this tournament he won ) promoted to 49th Yokozuna. Although he made yet another tournament victory in May 1964, but he was always in the shadow of two dominant at this time yokozuna Taiho and Kashiwado.
