Makuuchi#Sekiwake

Sekiwake (Japanese关 胁) is called the third highest rank in sumo, the higher of the two lower sanyaku ranks.

It is the highest rank in sumo, which can be reached by simply kachi- koshi (more wins than losses in a tournament ). The further promotion to ozeki is subject to particular conditions ( see below). At the same time sekiwake is also the last rank that can be lost by mere make- koshi. The owner will be downgraded in this case to komusubi or even maegashira. There are always at least two sekiwake, in exceptional cases three or four.

Three or four Sekiwakeränge be, for example, awarded when one hand the current sekiwake by Kachi kochi retain their ranks and the other a komusubi reached at least 11 wins.
