Toggenburger Bank

The Toggenburg Bank is one of the predecessors of the former Swiss Bank Corporation and later UBS. After its founding in 1863, the Toggenburg Bank in 1912 merged with the Bank in Winterthur. From this merger, the Union Bank of Switzerland was created.

History

1863 Toggenburg was in light climbing founded with an initial capital of 1.5 million Swiss francs.

The Toggenburg Bank was a retail bank for customers in eastern Switzerland. In 1882, the Toggenburg Bank opened a branch in St. Gallen and began to move their businesses slowly there.

Union Bank of Switzerland originated in 1912 from the merger of Toggenburg Bank with the Bank in Winterthur. The ensuing banking assets under management of approximately CHF 202 million and had equity of 46 million francs. In the coming years, the Bank began to move their center of St. Gallen and Winterthur to Zurich. 1917, the new head office at the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich was opened.

The bank had more than one name because of the different languages ​​. In German-speaking Switzerland, the Bank Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS ) has been called. The English name for the Union Bank of Switzerland was Swiss Banking Association. This name was changed in 1921, however, at the Union Bank of Switzerland to become the French Union de Banques Suisses form closer.
