Togodumnus

Togodumnus († 43 AD ) was a British king of the tribe of the Catuvellauni during the period of Roman rule in Britain. He may be identical with the legendary king Guiderius.

Togodumnus was preserved in the Roman History of Cassius Dio, after he was a son of King Cunobelinus. He had two brothers, Adminius and Caratacus.

According to Cassius Dio tradition Togodumnus directed the original resistance to the Roman invasion and was killed during the Battle of the Thames. The Roman general Aulus Plautius should have buried him on the Thames, and then his advance on the capital of the Catuvellaunier - Camulodunum (Colchester ) - continue. The British tribes continued the resistance against the Romans stubbornly continued, now under the leadership of Caratacus.
