Tohoku Gakuin University

The Tohoku Gakuin University (Japanese东北 学院 大学, Tōhoku Gakuin daigaku ) is a private university in Japan. The main campus is located in Tsuchitoi, Aoba -ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Their motto is "Life, Light, Love".

History

The University was founded in 1886 as a theological seminary Sendai (仙台 神 学校, Sendai shingakkō ). The founders were two Christians: Oshikawa Masayoshi (押 川 方 义, 1852-1928 ), one of the first Japanese Protestants, and William E. Hoy ( 1858-1927 ), an American missionary of the Reformed Church.

1891 continued the school a department for non-Christian students and named in Tohoku Gakuin (东北 学院, dt " the Academy Tohoku " ) around. 1904 their technical college department was legitimate school. In 1925 she moved to the present Tsuchitoi campus. In 1946 she was in Tohoku Gakuin school (东北 学院 専 门 学校, Tohoku Gakuin Semmon Gakko ) renamed. She had two departments: English literature and economics.

In 1949 she became the Tohoku Gakuin University. In 1962, she founded the Faculty of Engineering in the New tagajo campus. In 1989 she founded the Faculty of Liberal Arts at the Izumi Campus.
