Tokai University

The Tōkai University (Japanese东海 大学Tōkai Daigaku ) is a private university founded in 1942 with headquarters in Tokyo and Kanagawa prefectures in the campus, Shizuoka, Hokkaidō and Kumamoto, which is known for its law faculty.

History

The University was established in December 1942 as Aeronautical Technical School (航空 科学 専 门 学校, Koku kagaku Semmon Gakko in Shimizu, Shizuoka Prefecture ) was founded. The founder was Shigeyoshi Matsumae (松 前 重 义, 1901-1991 ), a leading engineer of the Japanese Ministry of Communications (逓 信 省, Teishin - shō ). He had already in 1936 a private school bosei - Gakujuku (望 星 学 塾, dt " bosei Academy "; bosei means " look up to the stars" ) founded on the model of the Danish Folkehøjskole. One of the four mottoes of the private school was: "In your youth, your hope of binding to the stars. " The Gakujuku was closed in the Pacific War, but this motto came into the university of her.

Matsumae founded then in March 1944, the Radio Technical school (电波 科学 専 门 学校, Dempa kagaku Semmon Gakko in Tokyo ). In August 1945, after the Pacific War, the technical schools for Natural Sciences vocational school Tōkai (东海 科学 専 门 学校, Tōkai kagaku Semmon Gakko ) were merged. They developed in May 1946 to Tōkai University, which was incorporated in 1950 in the new Japanese educational system. First, they had only two faculties ( humanities and engineering sciences ) because Matsumae sought mutual understanding between the two rooms.

Only in the 1960s, the Shonan campus was in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture opened ( the headquarters remained in Tokyo ). In April 2008, the Kyushu - Tōkai University were eventually ( in Kumamoto ) and the Hokkaido - Tōkai University ( Asahikawa ) merged with the Tōkai University.
