Toko Shinoda

Toko Shinoda (Japanese筱 田 桃红; born March 28, 1913 in Dalian, Manchukuo (now the People's Republic of China) ) is a Japanese artist who works primarily with ink in the style of ( Sumi -e).

Life

Shinoda under the name Masuko (満 洲 子, literally " Manchurian child " ) was born in the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo in Manchuria as the daughter of a Japanese director of a tobacco factory. In 1914 the family moved back to Japan. Inspired by her father's love for calligraphy to ink drawings and Chinese poetry, she turned to the age of 6 years of calligraphy. Her first solo exhibition she had in 1940 in the Gallery Kyūkyōdo in Tokyo.

After the Second World War, her style became more abstract. You could customize the technique of lithography small series whose prints were often changed individually by adding strokes of color in the Sumi- style. The formats of the images were very small in recent years often.
