Tokyo University of the Arts

The Tōkyō Daigaku Geijutsu (Japanese东京 艺术 大学, dt "University of Tokyo arts," engl. Tokyo University of the Arts ), short Tōkyō Geidai, is an art school founded in 1887 in Tokyo. It is one of the most prestigious training centers for musicians and artists in Japan.

The university has four campuses:

  • Ueno Campus (上野 キャンパス) in Taitō -ku, Tōkyō Prefecture; Main campus
  • Toride Campus (取手 キャンパス) in Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture
  • Yokohama Campus (横浜 キャンパス) in Naka- ku, Yokohama
  • Senju Campus (千住 キャンパス) in Adachi -ku, Tōkyō Prefecture

The university has its own art museum on the premises.

History

Today's university was established in 1949 by the merger of two established institutions Tōkyō Bijutsu Gakko 1887 precursor (东京 美术 学校, dt " Academy of Art Tokyo " ) and Tōkyō Ongaku Gakko (东京 音 楽 学校, dt " Conservatory Tokyo ").

2008, the University changed its English name from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo University of the Arts.
