Tola (unit)

The Tola is a common unit in Asia. It is used in particular in three regions:

  • As gold and silver weight in the East Indies, originally the weight of Bombay or Siccarupie 179 to 179.5 English troy Graen = 11.599 to 11.642 g; was divided into Bombay in 100 Goonze of 6 Chows, in Calcutta in 12 Masha à 8 Röttihs ( Ruttees ) of 4 Dhan
  • Normal or new weight bazaar in Calcutta, of 16 Anna = 180 English = grain 3/8 ounce = 11.664 g and its upper stages Sihr and Maund form the avoirdupois
  • As common in the United Arab Emirates weight unit in the trading of gold and silver (1 tola = 11.664 g)
